Nielsen Park, one of Sydney’s iconic and unspoiled heritage parks, is enjoying a new lease on life with the recent ownership change of its four independently run venues.

Featuring Sydney’s leading event caterer, The Truffle Group, Nielsen Park’s heritage listed properties are undergoing and strategic development program designed to bring the park into the foreground of Sydney’s international and domestic events scene.

As one of the city’s hidden secrets, Nielsen Park and its various event spaces offer a great blank canvas for creating unique events and entertainments that maximise the naturally beautiful surrounds of the location with five star event management and catering – from weddings, small outdoor dining events and corporate functions through to large scale public festivals.

The park venues will be slowly refurbished to reflect their newest ownership in conjunction with National Park guidelines. National Parks have backed the developments and are supporting the refurbishments /enhancements of Nielsen Park; recognizing the park as the undiscovered jewel in its crown.  The refurbishments will be a work-in-progress, rolled out gradually.  These changes implemented will support the image of the park throughout its past and future, giving the community as a whole better usage of its facilities.

The first venue to feel the effects of the change of hands is the Nielsen Park Café and Restaurant, with a new interior look courtesy of designer Victoria Alexander which combines handicraft inspired soft furnishings with elegant table settings to highlight the unique atmosphere of beachside dining with the natural beauty of the park surrounds.

Nielsen Park Café and Restaurant is fully licensed with signature menus featuring fresh, seasonal produce and sophisticated yet value for money dishes. Expect to find a wealth of locally sourced ingredients and flavours featuring on each menu throughout the year, complimented with a selection of boutique wines.

Our History:
During the latter part of the 19th century, Nielsen Park was a part of the Vaucluse House estate, then under the ownership of one of Australia’s great historical figures, William Charles Wentworth. His son-in-law John Reeve undertook to construct the magnificent Greycliffe House. This meticulously maintained house remains to this day on the raised plain above Shark Beach and is one of very few examples of Gothic architecture in Sydney.

In 1911 the park was established as a public reserve, thanks to the efforts of the Harbour Foreshores Vigilance Committee, which was formed in 1905 to champion the cause of returning the foreshores of the inner harbour to public ownership. The park was christened Nielsen Park, after the incumbent minister for land, Neils Nielson.

Subsequent to becoming a part of the public domain, Nielsen Park received additional features, such as the unique sea wall, classic bathing sheds and the kiosk. In 1975, the land and its existing structures were subsumed under the mantle of Sydney Harbour National Park
